Thanks for your response. Is any form of external resistance tolerance? If you’re saying that success of an endeavor proves tolerance then MLK’s generation lived in a world that tolerated him since he succeeded right?
Here’s the question:
MLK’s generation succeeded in abolishing segregation (i.e. painting the room green).
BUT they received verbal resistance (racial slurs)
AND physical resistance (lynching, etc)
I feel that we would both agree that MLK’s opponents were not tolerant of his ideas. But I think we should also agree that even if we took away one of the resistance points (if we took away physical resistance but not verbal; or we took away verbal but not physical) that we would still say that MLK’s opponents were not tolerant. If we say this then even verbal resistance is still resistance and therefore not an act of tolerance. Agree or disagree?
If you agree, then Bob was NOT tolerant of Jimmy since he offered verbal resistance. Agree or disagree?
