This point about forgiveness as espoused by christians has always been hard for me to wrap my head around.
For example, according to christians, a thoroughly evil man, who has spent a lifetime killing and raping children and committing other unspeakable acts, only has to repent on his deathbed to be granted forgiveness and granted entrance to heaven.
But an atheist can spend his lifetime doing good deeds, helping the poor, contributing to his community, and living an exemplary life is condemned to the christian hell to burn for eternity just because he didn’t believe the unevidenced claims of the christians.
