Oh - were we only talking “nature”? I didn’t know possibility only “existed” there…
Besides - all the components and creative process involved come from “nature” - so it’s quite natural imo
Then by that reasoning every single thing conjured up in the imagination of every single human being ever, is real.
Again, my imagination may or may not interact with physical reality. I can “imagine” all sorts of things - I can play out consequences - then I can try to place it into the reality level I exist on - and BOOM it may or may not “go” as I expect.
My imagination can and does feed my sexual processes as does thinking and feelings - all may or may not be evident in reality.
So the experience of my imaginations and thinking are “real” for me - as yours are for you. Some people share their imagination through stories/entertainment … or invention …or processes - it’s very fucking cool. So as a process it is very real (imagination).
Mind-candy is also fun - pushes our boundaries which has played a BIG part in our evolutionary process.
Something so simple.
Imagine the link made between cutting open a carcass, removing its innards and instead of tossing the “skin” having the “imagination” to mentally see that same skin holding water.
That particular “imaginative link” worked in reality.
Indeed. I once had a happy clapper opine that God could have created the world and everything in it, including our memories, 3 minutes ago. As far as I can see, that counts as a really pointless argument. The only rational response I’ve been able to come up with is “Yes,indeed he could have.SO FUCKING WHAt?”
My favourite from the same person is the claim that when god created the world he also created all the fossils.{too fool non believers} I responded by asking her to first prove her god exists before making any claims about him. Things kinda went downhill from that point
It was not an appeal to authority, it was a citation. What was quoted isn’t true because it is stated by Descartes. It’s true because it can’t be false:
It can be phrased several different ways (here is some examples):
- You can’t be tricked into believing you do exist.
- Before you can be deceived, you must already exist!
If you believe you exist (if you think), then you must exist.
Not sure that’s entirely correct.
The cognito assumes there is an ‘I’. Not sure he may do that, but I’m a weak philosopher so am probably wrong.
They are.
If you believe in a god or gods, you are a theist. If not, you are an atheist.
Right; because things that don’t exist, can’t make assumptions.
That is the point: if you are at the point where making an assumption is an option, you can already be certain that you exist.
