Hypocritical god

They can always claim that puny human minds can’t understand god’s ways, which are “past finding out”. It’s like they trot out different, incompatible arguments to rationalize the situation at hand. God is ineffable when he needs to be, drop-dead obvious when it is convenient. Good grief, what if our government did that … oh, wait …

The bible depicts this bigotry in the old testament again and again, god’s chosen people get to enslave murder and rape other tribes. Of course they had to paint Jesus as blond and blue eyed for centuries to pretend that white people are the chosen ones, the bigotry remains the same, only the amount of melanin in the skin changes.

Yep. No doubt. However, try telling that to those who subscribe to the whole “Free Will” delusion. Even by using their own book and showing them what you just posted, it never ceases to amaze me how many of them will twist, turn, bend, stretch, and warp like Olympic-level contortionists in an attempt to justify their god’s horrendous behavior and hold steadfast to their whole “Free Will” excuse. To be honest, it’s actually rather impressive sometimes. Disturbing, true, but impressive, nonetheless. We’ve all seen it on this site, and many (most) of us have seen it done up close and personal in real life. Oh, well, such is the world in which we live… (*shrugging shoulders*)….

Conflicts? Contradictions? Errors?…. In the BIBLE???…. No waaaaay!…. Where? When are you godless heathens ever gonna learn the god in the bible is PERFECT and makes zero mistakes. If he had the bible written with supposed “errors” in it, then it was done ON PURPOSE as part of his perfect plan for humanity. In which case, that “holy book” is certainly perfect in that regard. Perhaps it is a test to determine who is faithful enough to believe in him, regardless of the muddy waters within the pages of the bible. Or maybe god intentionally wants all of his human pets constantly pitted against each other in an effort to determine which ones will stand up and defend his “word” that hardest. You know, weed out the weak. You must remember, god works in mysterious ways far beyond our feeble understanding. Regardless, to question god in any way is foolish, for those who doubt and question are destined for the eternal molten lava spa prepared for them by the all-loving/all-forgiving creator of the universe. PRAISE THE LORD!!! :innocent: (Uh, wait…. Where was I going with all of that? ) Oh, okay, I remember. You need to go find Jesus… or something like that.

Speaking of puny and fragile human minds, here’s a bit of humor for you. My wife got into a discussion on FB the other day, and she asked me to step in as a “pinch hitter” for her to respond to a few comments that got tossed at her. (Oh, goody-goody! Play time for me! ) Naturally, she and I do not “debate” in the same manner. She is far more serious, and sometimes even downright confrontational, during religious discussions. On the other hand, my methods are more, uh…. well  … hmmm…. I’ll allow others to decide that for themselves. :innocent: (Shut up @oldmanwhoshoutsatclouds. You stay out of this.) Anyway, I jumped into the discussions on her behalf and delivered a few of my typical back-handed remarks here and there to various posters. Then handed her phone back to her and told her to have fun with the inevitable upcoming replies. (The topic had to do with the notorious “Free Will”, by the way.) So, fast forward a couple of days, and she lets me know about a few of the responses. One in particular gave me a good chuckle. It was from a dude who told my wife she didn’t know how to properly read/interpret the bible, and she had no proper understanding of god’s word. Something I should mention at this point about my wife. She spent her entire childhood (kindergarten through high school graduation) attending a private Christian school. She had to pass structured bible classes ever year to progress and graduate. And she was always top in her bible classes. (She considers herself a Pagan now, having managed to escape her Christian indoctrination long before she and I ever met.) Suffice it to say, we both had a good laugh at that guy’s statement. And she made me very proud with her response to it by posting, “Oh, the irony!” (That’s my girl! ) So, just wanted to share that real quick. She gets some good shots in now and then. As many others on here can attest, it’s almost sad how many irony meters have been destroyed on this site while having discussions with the theists among us.

you can’t really stop that. the world runs based on what people FEEL is right. if those in power care about logic and evidence, this forum wouldn’t exist

An aspect of this reality that is particularly vexing for me is that it often doesn’t matter to Other People what I actually think or feel or intend, what matters is what THEY ASSUME I think or feel or intend, usually without being arsed to even ask me if that’s so, nor particularly disposed to believe my answers on the rare occasions when they DO ask, as they consider their subjective impressions more authoritative than my personal experience with … ya know, myself.

The corollary I’ve come to concerning this is that what I think or feel or intend is not important to anyone but me, and I must act accordingly. Although I’m to a point in life where I’m not sure I even give a fig anymore, or should. There is no vindication to be had, no finally being understood. There is just the zeitgeist always gazing at me and judging me at will. And does that really matter? Why no … no it does not. While being loved, appreciated, or understood by others is always nice where you can sporadically get it, ultimately, it’s a meaningless fool’s errand. Even if you get it, it doesn’t validate a thing (they could be mistaken for example that you meant well or did your best – the problem cuts both ways).

At the end of the day I just do my thing and let the chips fall where they may, and people feel whatever they feel. Also I’m fully aware that I sometimes misjudge others as well. It’s just part of the human condition.
