Atheism is simply lack of belief in even one deity. Nothing more, nothing less. Even if this podcast were in English it would be a waste of my time because it’s needlessly muddying the waters.
Religion (and areligion) relate to atheism only incidentally since most people who become atheists were religious to begin with and most religions have deities … if you lose belief in deities then by definition you would either leave a religion that worships some god(s) or just go through the motions to appease family members or something. And that would be “going way from religion”. But it misses the point of what atheism is and isn’t.
It also unhelpfully conflates atheism and other reasons for becoming less religious. Some people are “going away from religion” but still believe in a deity. Examples would be the “spiritual but not religious” folks, such as people who are not involved in organized Christianity but still observe some aspects of it privately.
Still others have just become indifferent to religion and don’t see the point, while not specifically rejecting belief in one or more deities. They may be casting about the smorgasbord of available religions looking for something that resonates or, preferably, works better.
