Going against the Grain

No you haven’t. You have completely missed the point. In order to know something, you must have epistemology and facts. You have given me things you consider evidence, but since they are not measurable and falsifiable they get rejected out of hand. Like most Christians, you seem to be incapable of giving me your epistemology and just a few bad facts that stems from it.

I could walk in and tell you that I was god and that you should do what I say. How could you prove I wasn’t? That is why epistemology is important because it is really easy to make stuff up. How do you know the people in the Bible were not lying or mistaken? I keep asking you this, what measurable evidence do you have that god exists, and exists in the way you think he does?

Yet another false equivalency. The problem with flat eathers is the same with creationists: they are unwilling to update their static model of reality when receiving new measurable evidence. People 500 years ago knew the earth was round and it’s circumference because of measurements not because they had “faith” it was round. While having rockets is nice, you don’t actually need them to prove the earth is round. I am willing to change based on new measurable data. What you said is a false equivalency because you do not have measurable proof of your claims and we do have measurable proof the earth is round. You choose to believe the unfalsifiable claim that prophets heard from god, not because somebody measured it, but because you want to. You need to show why my epistemology is flawed and why yours is better.

Scientologists claim that space 747s carried thetins to earth. Think about the amount of evidence we would need to believe that. A picture or youtube video would not suffice. The same is for any god or gods.

The reason why epistemology is important because having a good one will keep you grounded in reality. It is easy to claim that others will not change, but somehow, I doubt you ever will. Would you leave your religion if you learned it was wasn’t real? What would that evidence look like? If you are unwilling to leave something if it is false, than you don’t care about truth, you care about what you currently believe being true. That is the problem with unfalsifiable things, you can only stop believing them when you want to. You can’t prove thetins don’t exist, only that the probability of them existing is low. Unfortunately, simply saying the odds are low doesn’t sway most people and Scientologists will keep on believing it.
