"Extremism" and "hate speech" by Ted Torbich

My mum used to say she was brought up in’ The United Church of Canada’, but seemed to have no idea apart from the name.

Here in Oz, we have 'The Uniting Church. It was formed in 1977. It amalgamated Presbyterians, Methodists an Congregationalist.

The Catholic church used to practice some hateful exclusions. Still has some of 'em. My mother had not converted when she and dad married. Consequently, they were not permitted to have the ceremony in front of the altar. Instead it was held in the little side room where the priest prepared for mass.

Divorced Catholics are not permitted to receive communion (This a very big deal) Nor will any new marriage be recognised by the church. They are effectively removed from the fellowship of church, although still members.

In a piece of stunning hypocrisy, that situation can only be rectified by obtaining an annulment. Here there is a $1500 fee.
