Christian Forums

Howdy, AB. Welcome to our little den of degenerate dissenters. Come on in and make yourself at home.

While the dual creation stories is one of the more obvious bible discrepancies, you should know by now it is NOT much of a deterrent for those of “true faith” who would be a member of Christian sites. And encroaching into the territory of THEIR sacred site is DEFINITELY NOT the place to try to debunk it. The lengths some of those folks will go to in order to maintain their grasp on their beloved fairytale can be mind-boggling at times. Why bother?

On other forums, I’ve debated with Christians to the point they started resorting to some major “Ad Hominem Attacks” such as trolling, putting words in my mouth, and making claims that I was a liar. I have felt the best way to handle that is to stay calm and keep pushing them. The more you push the faster they end up getting themselves banned. After all, we’re just bringing out the crazy religious nut that they keep tucked away.

Christian forum viewing can be quite a worthy endeavor, in my experience.

Reading opinions, beliefs, and worldviews from the 14th Century by those still acting as spokespeople for these things is (somewhat) directly viewing the abysmal ignorance and misplaced certainty mankind was laboring under at the time.

Imagine the paucity of opportunities future mankind will have to experience such a thing - in the unlikely case civilization should outlive the intrinsic and massively intolerant hostility religions have for one another and those who don’t believe.

Whoa-whoa-whoa! Hold up a sec. Help me out a bit here, please. CHRISTIANS getting banned from a Christian site? How the hell does THAT happen? You push them until they go on a rant, but so what? How bad could it possibly be???

“Okay! That’s IT! Gloves are coming off now, you filthy Fragglerocker! Gosh-dangit, you’ve hit a fudging NERVE with your remarks about God being a homicidal maniac! Oh my GAH! How DARE you say such a thing, you mean ol’ donkey hiney! Go eat moldy cat poo-poo and die and go to Aich Ee Double-hockey-sticks! If you were here right now I’d put your floppy ding-dong noodle in a paper shredder and then feed it to you like spaghetti! And I don’t give a flying fiddlestick who sees this because I am DEFENDING THE LORD against your tub of blasphemous horsie pee-pee.”

Honestly, if somebody dressed me down like that, I would give them a standing ovation and ask for an encore! (After I recovered from a severe laughing fit, of course.)

Being a racing addict, I was in a racing forum that leaned heavily towards Formula One and with the British perspective. There is one driver, Lewis Hamilton who is definitely quick, but a toxic person. I leveled a few slights against him, nothing that cut deep. But that was enough for a few forum members to complain to the mods and I was banned.

When you attack what the forum was set up for, expect to be banned for spoiling their party.

It was over a Christian of some denomination claiming that marital rape and beating a woman in marriage was okay. I wasn’t the only person in the debate telling him that all forms of rape and marital abuse are wrong and it’s 100% not okay. The Admin banned him and knowing I was an Atheist on the board, apologized to me and told me that not all Christians are like that. The staff on there could tell I had a problem with them and their religion. Like I said, I was on there sharpening my hatchet.

Ooooooooo… Damn, how I wish I could have been in on that one. It’s the caustic/malignant ones like him that I like to destroy. Would be curious to have seen the comments toward him from other Christians.

There’s a lot of stupid shit being posted on Christianity Haven. Lots of cherry picking if you know what I mean.

“And on the seventh day, God climaxed seeing all that He had created. And where to ever for there were schpunkta everywhere and God saw that it was good. And on that same day, He needed a rest.”

Yes, fapping is good. It does more than two hands clasped together in prayer.

I haven’t been to a wholly christian forum in a couple of decades. But within the last five years I have occasionally checked out religiousforums.com. There’s an atheist subsection and atheist members, but the forum itself is governed theistically.

Most definitely.

I opened an account in one theist forum, and it was all quoting the bible and praising. I attempted polite rational dialogue, but I was drowned out by the incessant god references. I left that place about a year ago, and just in the last two weeks decided to re-visit the place. After about ten minutes reading different threads I realized this was not a place for me.

At least it confirmed that religion is a bat-shit exercise in the echo chamber of god.

I’m not a member of any Christian forum. I was on one and requested to have my account seized and deleted.

It’s a complete waste of time when all they want to do is gang up on you and publicly shame you on the forum for not sharing their superstitions. It’s like running into a crowd of zombies. You can only take so much at one time before they overwhelm you. Christians have a lot of bravado in numbers. But really they’re just a bunch of zebra, and we’re the lions. So I often will lurk just to see what they’re going on about. I like to see which arguments they’re using. Sometimes a hunter has to study his prey.

I’m on plenty of general forums that are theistically governed. Religion isn’t the aim though. When religion is brought up in the debate areas with the usual “Do you believe in god” threads, they can get pretty heated and turned into the usual “You prove it!” & " No you prove it!" back and forth hibbety jibbety.

As an Admin my fear is that Atheist Republic will become a mirror of christian forums. We need to continually attempt to truly think about what theists state, and give it sincere consideration, not blind rejection. Counter-arguments should be rational and well supported.

I truly believe in many freedoms, including freedom to have an opinion, freedom of expression, and free speech. And just as relevant, the freedom to be offended. That works both ways, and I attempt to be hands-off as much as possible. The conversations in many threads wander off-topic and into weird territory, but that is what freedom is all about.

For any theists reading this, I offer a humble suggestion. You do not have to respond to all posts. That can quickly become a morass of confusion and misunderstanding. And I do understand that it can feel like you are being ganged up on. Maintain conversations with just a few, ignore the rest.

For any who believe they are being ignored, please be considerate and be tolerant. While they may not respond, they do read your posts. More importantly, others read posts and many learn. I am one of the recipients of what others have stated. From that I have learned a lot, and hopefully become a better person.

As an Admin I have access to data, and we have near as many lurkers as posters. Think of them, set an example, because we can make assholes of ourselves, or we can offer rational dialogue that can assist others in breaking free of the shackles of the evil that is religion.

Yeah, there is no point trying to talk sense to a Christian or any “believer”. By definition, believers are people who rely on belief (wishful thinking) instead of facts to understand the world. That is pure self indulgence for the sake of living in a world that is the way they WANT it to be like, rather than a world that is the way it actually IS.

So, their need for self delusion is both the cause of their problem and the result. Talk about a “self-fulfilling prophesy”!

I fully agree that when the inquiry is genuine, the response should be appropriate. On the other hand… well… you know!

Ignored? Who is going to ignore me. It can’t happen! Nooooooooooooooooooo! Monkey wants attention!!! Okay okay okay … rational! (Deep breath! Deep breath! Exhale! Fart!) Whew, I feel better.

I’m gonna go lie down. This was just too much for me to deal with now. I need a safe space.

I could not disagree more. Most people would not be here were it not for the fact that someone once talked to them. There is no “Need” for self delusion. There is a reasonable ‘self protection’ that all humans exhibit when their core beliefs are challenged. There is unreasonable ‘delusion-like’ thinking that some theists achieve through their indoctrination. If you don’t talk to them, you will never have an affect on them.

If you want to see some serious batshit insanity, take a peek at Rapture Ready. That place is an insane asylum run by the inmates, one of whom emulates the behaviour of his cosmic tyrant all the way to Spinal Tap 11.

Don’t even think of trying to post there, because the dirty tricks they will pull if you try to present even an atom of rationality to them, are on a scale that would even make a Nigerian scammer blanch.

Similar remarks apply to the likes of Conservapedia and any forum run by creationists. If you are foolish enough to try and engage with the specimens populating these halls of delusion and duplicity, take regular screenshots so you have a record of their malfeasance that they can’t destroy to cover their tracks.

Likewise, if you ever feel the urge to post in some of the more notorious Facebook pages run by these people, be prepared for dishonesty on a Wagnerian scale. Everything from deliberate twisting of your words, to cheap playground ad hominems , await you.

The usual suspects even try this behaviour out if they gatecrash rationalist forums to spread their drivel. Though in properly regulated spaces, their mischief doesn’t last very long.

Quite simply, the vocal and persistent offenders not only have no real knowledge of the proper rules of discourse, but regard themselves as exempt therefrom, while in predictably hypocritical manner, demanding that you jump through the same hoops they refuse to.

The aetiology in question has, of course, been displayed here too, but receives well-deserved short shrift.

The weird part is that the genuinely thoughtful parts of the mythology fanboy demographic, rarely turn up in places such as this, and instead leave a vacuum that is filled by the rampant hotheads. This is observable to a frightening extent on the AR FB page, which attracts some of the nastiest examples of recrudescent duplicity, accompanied in numerous cases by the functionally illiterate.

Sometimes, the specimens in question possess entertainment value, but even this is short lived.

Such is the result of mistaking apologetics for genuine academic rigour.
