There are two main reasons for this.
- They hold spiritual law above legal law, which means they don’t have to report a crime if they don’t want to (how that’s fair I have no idea).
- If someone in the clergy admits to being a pedophile, do you think they’d want that to get out? Of course not, they’d cover it up.
Then again, as we learned from Nixon, sometimes the coverup can be worse than the crime
