Florida student holding clarinet āas if it were a weaponā sends school into lockdown
A central Florida middle school was sent into lockdown on Tuesday after an automated weapons detection system mistook a musical instrument for a gun.
Seminole County school officials said Lawton Chiles Middle School in Oviedo was placed under a brief āCode Redā lockdown after the AI spotted a student holding a clarinet like a rifle, WKMG-TV reports.

So I had an epiphany earlier, I think itās pretty funny, but I shall let others judge. First some background facts, I have a garage where I park my car, and when I reverse in the radio cuts out, every time so far this has happened. Anyway after some xmas shopping earlier, I duly returned home, opened the garage (I have a remote) and reversed in, the radio did not cut out, on its own this was insufficiently remarkable, as I was focused on reversing the car, and when I was content hit the button to turn the engine off, now this of course will cut the radio, but just prior to this, a news bulletin in mid flow, the announcer said:
āDonald Trump has admitted he knows nothingā¦ā, and the radio duly died, I had to wait a minute before I could get out as I was laughing so hard. Tis the season to be jolly after allā¦
The only way to cope with that asshole is laughter. Thanks. I needed that.
Meanwhile, when even Catholic priests start protesting in this manner, you know the state of the USA is far more rotten than Hamletās Denmark could ever be ā¦

Read an interesting thought piece today that says thereās a sea change / shift going on thatās very reminiscent of how McCarthyism collapsed. Any ambiguity the presence of guilt or who it belongs to is going away. The regime literally has been reduced in the past week or two to pure gaslighting of virtually everyone ā putting Trump out in a rally talking about how prosperous everyone supposedly is. Having no answers for increasingly specific interrogations in Congress. Weāre at the point where the rats start jumping ship because they can sense which way the wind is blowing ā just as support / tolerance for McCarthy collapsed. At that point McCarthy didnāt lose his position as Senator, but he lost his power.
The coming year is going to be a toxic stew of interacting forces so Iām in no way predicting that weāre out of our woods or even on our way out. It is perhaps not the beginning of the end, so much as the end of the beginning. But change is in the wind. Trump having his ass handed to him by members of his own party in Indiana despite maximum pressure and threats. The passage of a bipartisan bill restoring union protections to federal workers, nullifying one of Trumpās executive orders (still has to pass the Senate, but has a fighting chance and even this much was unthinkable just a month ago). A Republican congressman from Minnesota writing Trump to invite him to meet some of his Somali constituents so that he can see they are honest hard working responsible / wonderful people and in the meantime please never call anyone garbage because āGod doesnāt make trashā. Christy Noem getting brutally owned and confronted with her many lies to the point where she fled the inquiry. Several other examples in recent days. And it helps that Trump is getting more delusional and demented ā pardoning for example someone in jail under state charges in Colorado, where he has no pardon power whatsoever.
The final nail in the coffin is that from about this weekend into mid January, bazillions of people are going to open letters notifying them that their health insurance premiums have gone up 3, 5, 6+ times what they were last year because of the āBig Beautiful Billā. Many, probably most, of those people, simply wonāt have health insurance because they canāt begin to afford it. One seriously floated Republican alternative was basically to give everyone $80 a month and wish them luck paying out of pocket. And all this could have been avoided by simply extending the existing subsidies for even another year, past the mid term elections. The self-owns just keep piling up.
Iāve spent 2-1/2 months outside the U.S. this year and it was very refreshing to get away from Trumpās daily bullshit for a while.

And, in other atrocities, the USA has now ordered that a font be erased from official documents, because it makes life slightly easier for dyslexics. Rancid, fascist fuckers.

Itās a vivid illustration of how the world is better for some people being in it and so horrible for others existing in it that you donāt want to share the same planet with them. Trumpās assholery makes my friendās absence more acute. Heās gone and Trumpās not.

It was gratifying, however, to watch the video of the bystander tackling and disarming the asshole shooting up the crowd at Bondi Beach. It restored some of my faith in humanity.
